A Day of Infamy: Tyranny Unleashed on Innocent Filipinos

2 min read

Today, June 10. 2024, will live on in the collective memory of the Filipino people as a day of infamy.

At around 3 am, upon orders of the sitting president, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, a battalion of state forces from the PNP and the AFP swooped down in full battle gear - armed to their teeth with high powered firearms while helicopters hovered above - to confront innocent unarmed civilians of the KOJC- in their main compound beside Davao International Airport, the Prayer Mountain in Purok 3, Tamayong, the Glory Mountain in Purok 6, Tamayong, the QSands Baptismal Resort in the Island Garden City of Samal, and the Kitbog Compound in Malungon, Sarangani simultaneously.

Without search warrants, state forces stormed into these private properties and searched every square inch while unarmed civilians- most of them missionaries, church workers and their families including children-screamed and wept as they bore witness to the excessive and arrogant abuse of power by Bongbong Marcos.

If the former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte had not intervened and asked the church members to peacefully allow state forces inside to avert bloodshed, who knows how much Filipino blood Bongbong Marcos would allow to be spilled just to show us just who is the boss here?

This isn’t about Pastor Quiboloy, nor is it about Rodrigo Roa Duterte. If it were so, a handful of police would have sufficed.

This is the fascist President Bongbong Marcos’ message to the Filipino people: that like his father before him, the fascist Ferdinand Marcos Sr, his namesake will not hesitate to use everything- government resources, forces - at his disposal to threaten, intimidate and scare the Filipino people into submission.

He has no shame, no moral compunction to cow ordinary and unarmed citizens- including children!- to silence and submission.

He will go as far as ordering state forces to use high powered firearms to frighten us to do his every bidding.

But a leader is strongest when people obey him because they trust and believe him.

And he is weakest when he has to use force and intimidation to let his constituents - people who once gave him their precious trust- obey him.

It has become exceedingly clear that the Filipino people no longer trust this man, this weak leader.

He has lost all moral ascendancy to lead because he himself has become the destroyer of our people and our democracy.
